BREAST AUGMENTATION

We are very fortunate today to have at our disposal a vast array of different implants from which you can choose.

The vast majority of our patients are now opting to use cohesive gel implants. Only about 5% of our patients decide to use saline implants. The decision to opt for either implant should be taken conjointly between you and Dr. Papanastasiou, depending on your chest anatomy and thickness of tissues.

Cohesive gel implants have been in existence since 1992 and have an excellent track record. The most commonly used style is the anatomically shaped (“tear drop”) one which gives the breast the most natural esthetic appearance as opposed to round implants which tend to give a rounder “operated” look.

If you choose saline implants, these can be inserted into the breasts with the use of an endoscope through a small incision in the underarm. The obvious advantage to this, of course, is that there are no scars on the breast.

Regardless of implants used, post-operative discomfort following this procedure is moderate for the first several days. You are able to return to fairly normal activities after one week. Exercises must be avoided for 4 weeks. Bruising usually disappears within the first two weeks. Slight swelling of the breasts may last for up to three months.
