he
field of cosmetic surgery has undergone dramatic changes. with
the advent of endoscopic techniques several years ago, Endoscopy
utilizes highly sophisticated mini camera systems introduced
through tiny incisions to accomplish esthetic improvements which
previously would have required bigger incisions and scars.
WHAT KIND
OF OPERATIONS CAN BE DONE BY ENDOSCOPY?
One of the most common surgeries is
that of breast augmentation. Previously the standard technique
required incisions directly on the breasts themselves: thus resulting
in permanent scars. In contrast, endoscopic breast augmentation
requires a tiny incision in the underarm through which the entire
operation is performed and also through which the implant is
introduced.

Today, silicone implants are no longer
used but instead, we use salt water (saline) implants with which
we have achieved a high degree of patient satisfaction and safety.
Other procedures which use these mini
incision techniques include: forehead and brow lifting, and mini
tummy tucks.
WHAT ARE
THE ADVANTAGES?
The most obvious advantage is the fact
that the scars are kept to an absolute minimum. In addition,
due to the fact that the scars are small, the operating time
is kept to a minimum thereby reducing post-operative pain, discomfort
and convalescence time.
CAN ANY
SURGEON PERFORM ENDOSCOPIC SURGERY?
No. Generally, the surgeon must have
specialized training and be certified in Plastic Surgery. Furthermore,
he/she must have additional training in the utilization of endoscopic
techniques in order to achieve the optimal esthetic results.
