Head must be elevated with two pillows when sleeping for the first week postoperatively. You MUST sleep on your back.
Expect your face to be swollen and bruised. It is NORMAL for your skin to feel NUMB and/or sensitive.
Expect your neck to feel tight, especially when turning your head from side to side. It is normal to feel tightness and a pulling sensation while healing.
No bending or lifting of heavy objects.
Purchase 4" gauzes at the pharmacy and apply these to cover the incisions, including the ears and place your facial strap over the gauzes. Change these gauzes daily.
You may wash your hair once your original dressing is removed. You may use a blow dryer only on a cool setting. Please do not use rollers
Hair coloring, permanent waves and other chemicals should be avoided three weeks BEFORE AND AFTER surgery.
For all male patients, do not shave until after the first post-operative visit for suture removal.
You will be given a prescription for pain medicine; take this only when you are having discomfort. DO NOT TAKE ANY ASPIRIN or any medications containing aspirin for the two weeks prior and after surgery. Aspirin interferes with normal blood clotting. Tylenol is a good substitute for aspirin.
Do not drink any alcoholic beverages for the first five (5) days following your surgery.
Avoid all strenuous activity for the first four (4) weeks following surgery. You may walk, shop, etc. in the initial post-operative period.
Do not drive for the first week after surgery.
If you smoke, YOU MUST STOP smoking for four (4) weeks before and after your surgery. It is very important for the healing process.
In case of persistent vomiting or nausea, use Gravol in a suppository form.
