Expect to feel swollen and distended. This is normal and is due to the swelling in the tissue after fat removal. Expect to see bruising.
Wear the girdle provided 24 hours a day for the first month after surgery. It can be removed for washing, bathing, etc., but should not be left off for more than one hour during the first week. The purpose of the girdle is to keep the swelling down and to help the skin nicely retract over the areas of fat removal.
For patients undergoing Smartlipo™, the girdle needs to be worn for only two weeks.
You may start to shower 4 days following your surgery. Baths should be avoided for two weeks following your surgery.
You will be given a prescription for pain medicine; take this only when you are having discomfort. DO NOT TAKE ANY ASPIRIN or any medications containing aspirin for the two weeks prior and after surgery. Tylenol is a good substitute for aspirin.
Do not drive an automobile while you are taking your pain medicine.
Expect your result to be obvious after a period of four to six weeks. However, it is important to know that the swelling and retracting of the skin will continue to improve for a period of four to six months. Everyone is different and swelling reduces more quickly in some patients than in others.
Following liposculpture under the chin and/or neck area you will wear a head dressing that is removed in 3 days. No further compression is necessary after the bandage is removed. You will notice this area continuing to reduce for a period of three (3) months.
For liposculpture of the hips, thighs, and knees it is recommended not to do too much walking for the first two days. Activity can then increase according to your own tolerance.
Avoid aerobics or other strenuous exercises for at least 4 to 6 weeks.
