Head must be elevated with two (2) to three (3) pillows. You must sleep on your back for one week after your surgery.
No bending or lifting of heavy objects for two weeks following surgery. Avoid exercising except for short walks for the first few days after surgery. Avoid regular exercising for the following 4-6 weeks.
Your eyes will be sensitive and your eyelids and the surrounding areas will be swollen and may have bruising, especially the day after the surgery. IT IS NORMAL THAT YOUR EYES TEAR AND YOUR VISION MAY BE BLURRED. Avoid wearing contact lenses for one week. Wear sunglasses in order to protect your eyes. Please note that smoke is a source of irritation to the eyes. Avoid alcoholic beverages for two (2) days after your surgery.
Apply ice packs(not directly on the skin) to the eyes continuously for the first twenty-four (24) hours following surgery. We recommend using frozen peas.
Apply the drops in each eye, as prescribed.
For upper eyelid surgery, it is important not to remove either the steristrips or to cut the blue suture. These will be removed by our nurse.
You can take a shower 4 days after your surgery but avoid water on your face until the sutures have been removed.
Avoid driving an automobile while you are taking your painkillers
In case of persistent vomiting or nausea, use Gravol in a suppository form.
You will be given a prescription for pain medicine; take this only when you are having discomfort. Do not take your painkiller on an empty stomach. DO NOT TAKE ANY ASPIRIN or any medications containing aspirin for two weeks and after surgery. Tylenol is a good substitute for aspirin.
